Artist Statement - Subliminal Reflections
My concept is to portray, visually with paint, in a two-dimensional, abstract expressive manner, my response to the emotion and/or message portrayed in specific pieces of music. Currently, I am exploring social inequity and injustice; therefore, the musical selections I use as inspiration refer to those issues, be they racial, gender-related, economic, political, religious or other. For me, the strong message and the rhythm of the individual songs inspire the movement, colours, forms and gestures that show up in the paintings, sometimes darkly, sometimes angrily, and sometimes optimistically.
